1995 Danish directors Lars Van Trier, Thomas Vinerburg wrote a new manifesto calling for a new style of film following strict rules.
Vow Of Chastity
- Shooting must be done on location, props and sets were found on location
- No audio post-production, sound is captured on location
- Camera must be handheld
- No artificial lighting
- No filters
- Real action
- films must be set on location in the present time
- Genre movies not acceptable
- Format must be academy 35mm
- Director never mentioned
Directors involved: Lars Van Trier, Thomas Vinerburg, Kristian Levring, Søren Kragh-Jacobsen
Dogme 95 was active from 1995 to 2005
I feel that the imposed set of rules actually makes more freedom as it make people more creative and maximise what they have without relying on post-production and artificial cinematic techniques.
